Ella Gibbs was artist in residence at this sheltered building for young people in the east end of London . She had the job of commissioning creative ideas that would breath life into the under used common spaces and involve the residents . I got the offer of changing a concrete , below street level outside area into a communal garden area for the kids and staff to use . Over 2 months a garden grew out of the concrete , and the kids got stuck in with the construction and planting . There was a wildflower meadow area ,brownfield site style garden ,veg planted in beds and tyres , herb tracks and a bbq area with pallet table and benches . We left behind a gardening tool kit and enough information for them to look after it .
